Obituary of David W. Stergas

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

David Wayne Stergas of Darien, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 11th, surrounded by his loving family.

David was born on November 5th, 1947, in Cooperstown, New York to Alban and Beatrice Stergas and was the eldest of three children. David spent much of his childhood living in Mississippi where he spent several summers working on a Mississippi River boat.

David received his bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University and went on to serve in the U.S. Army where he was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. It was in Oklahoma, that he met his wife, Bunny.

David and Bunny returned to Mississippi where David earned his law degree from the University of Mississippi. They moved from Mississippi to Darien in 1976, where David would go on to receive his LLM in Taxation from NYU.

David was a partner at the law firm of DePanfilis & Vallerie in Norwalk, Connecticut, where he worked for over 40 years.

While David was a dedicated lawyer, his true passion was on the golf course. This was second only to his devotion to Mississippi State University athletics.

David will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Angela (Bunny) Stergas; his daughters, Alison Stergas of Darien, CT and Kyle Murphy and her husband Stuart and his two granddaughters, Emma and Blair of Hingham, MA. He is also survived by his brother James Stergas of Jupiter, FL and Yvonne Bond of Bruce, MS.

Family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, May 18 from 5pm – 8pm at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road in Darien. A mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 19 at 10am at St. John's Church, 1986 Post Road in Darien. Burial to follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.

As David was a true dog lover, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in David's memory to The New York Bully Crew, a non-profit that rescues and rehabilitates dogs from dire circumstances and places them in loving homes.
