I was browsing the internet today, remembering those who made my life interesting and happy. Mike's face crossed my memory. I met him at our wonderful boutique law firm in August, 1985. He was my boss and I enjoyed working for him for several years. It was a lovely time in my life. He was a lovely man. I am saddened today to learn of his passing. Better late than never, Mike, but RIP. I hope you are Up There listening to music and playing drums.

I first met Big Mike in the late '60's in a joint on East 79th Street called Malkan's. Subsequently we saw each other at parties, weddings and funerals, and soon enough we became friends. We stayed in touch on a regular basis for the last three decades or so, until the disease took hold and asserted itself.
Since Mike and I were lawyers working in the City we discussed law, lawyers, and law firms common to us both. More often, however, we talked about books, plays, sports (White Sox vs Yanks), rowing crew, Chicago newspaper columnists, and music - especially jazz, of course. I learned, for instance, The Band might be acceptable, The Doors, not so much. Everything was on the table for discussion, however, because Mike was interested in everything.
What I will remember most, though, is that Mike had a passion for life and a gift for friendship. I am grateful that I was a beneficiary of each for so long. Mary and I sorely miss him and we extend our condolences to Cyndy and the rest of the family.

I was so saddened by the news of Mike’s passing! I always thought of him as a “kindred spirit” and we had many musically scintillating conversations over the years comparing notes on favorite bands, musicians, songs etc. Our hearts go out to Cyndy, their children and grandchildren…Lynn and John DiMenna

To Cyndy, heartfelt condolences at this sad time, but faith, hope and thanksgiving for the life of this wonderful man, husband, father, friend. Though we only re-connected infrequently since graduation from Villanova, my memories of Mike mirror the range and depth of admiration for his character that others have so ably articulated in these remembrances. Both from Chicago, it was by chance that we became roommates for a time freshman year, and spent most of our classroom and free time together at a pretty formative time in our lives. I'm pretty sure we were together at the Rosemont mixer when he first met you--and the rest, to say the least, is a rich and wonderful part of history that touched so many, in so many positive ways. The stories are many, and we are grateful for the joy and comfort they give us in their remembering, as we hope they do for you.
Kathy joins me in holding you and your family in our prayers and warmest thoughts.

Marti’s and my sincere condolences to Cyndy and the family.
I met Mike in 1980 when we were lateral hires at a small up and coming law firm in NYC. Ten years later Mike was instrumental in an all lawyers and all staff merger into a much larger firm. Mike’s personal friend and connection (whose life eventually ended tragically in the crash of TWA Flight 800) was crucial to the merger and Mike's unselfish, no one left behind demand of his partners was adopted by all of us. Although our professional paths eventually diverged we remained in touch from time to time.
We were neighbors in Brooklyn Heights before Mike and Cyndy moved to Darien. We shared a Metropolitan Opera subscription for several years and in a connection, which probably did not bring joy to Cyndy, Mike purchased my 1977 BMW motorcycle sometime in the 1990s.
I am among everyone who knew him who will miss Mike.
In a sad corollary to a line I heard Mike speak on happy occasions “as we say in Darien, Mazal Tov”, I add “may his Memory be for a Blessing”.

Michael W. Stamm, Esquire was truly a “Man for all Seasons.” “A man who is ready to cope with any contingency and whose behavior is always appropriate to every occasion.”
Mike was one of my dearest and closest friends, whose intellect, wit, intellectual curiosity and charm were unmatched in the life experience. A man of great range, fun and curiosity, he was admired by all my friends and by the entirety of my family, spanning many generations.
Michael was a fixture in my life, since the fall of 1965. We were both seventeen, when we met. Later, in 1967, I believe, Cyndy, his incredibly understanding and beautiful wife, met Michael. His influence, presence, reassurance and commitment were always present; he was someone who was always “there” in the good and most importantly, not so good times. Loyal and steadfast, “Big” Mike would never blink in the face of any difficulty and was universally genuine and real. There was not an insincere thought in his being.
I have an endless amount of Big Mike stories….. all fun, uplifting and unique. He was one of those figures in life who will be overwhelmingly missed by many, diverse communities. His passing is a monumental loss to all of us who knew him, but certainly nothing, approximating the void his beautiful family is enduring.
“Iron Mike”, “Big Mike”, Michael, you were one of my very best and closest friends for these past fifty-six years. I will miss your smiling face; there will never be another you.
Much love to you, Cyndy, Michael, Vera and Peter. You all have my deepest sympathies.

I spent 90 minutes alone on the water early this morning thinking about my friend Mike. I'm not a musician but I spent much time in Mike's office at Remedy talking about my passion, rowing. I fondly remember Mike recalling his rowing as a youth as he started indoor rowing as therapy when he first became ill. He was so excited to hook up a watch and his phone to record his Erg sessions. I only knew Mike 6-7 years but so glad to have been a friend of such a fine person - he will be missed by everybody he touched. Gene Huang

Cyndi, I was very saddened to hear about Mike's passing. Although I saw him only occasionally after Villanova we kept in touch now and then over our mutual love of jazz music, a lifelong gift we'd both received from our fathers as young boys. I had great admiration and respect for Mike and I offer my sincere condolences to you and your family.

Cyndy, Our sincere condolences to you and your family. This is a very sad day for Mike’s large cast of family, colleagues, and friends and especially for his Villanova family. It may have been a half century ago, but you and Mike and many others were such an important part of our lives at such a unique time and place. I wish I could be there to hug you. We are all there in spirit and always will be. As my Jewish friends say, May his memory be a blessing. Mike was a real star.
Much love, Albie
