Obituary of Richard William Sienkiewicz, Jr.
Richard "Dick" William Sienkiewicz Jr., 71, of Peterborough, NH died peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday November 30, 2013 in Springfield, MA.
He was born to the late Richard and Eleanor Sienkiewicz on December 14, 1941, in Darien, CT. Richard graduated from Darien High School in 1960 and received a BS in Printing Management and Journalism from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1969. He was married to Rosemary Capocci in 1968, and they lived together in Darien, CT, before relocating to Duluth, MN in 1976. They divorced amicably in 1982 and remained lifelong friends. Richard left Duluth in 2011 to live with his brother Bob and sister Nancy in Peterborough, NH.
Dick worked at Harcourt Brace, Edgell, and Advanstar Communications in Duluth before transferring to become Vice President of Davidson Printing Company until he retired in 2002. He was passionate about the printing trade serving as President of the Duluth-Superior Craftsman's Club helping to bring future generations into the field. His work ethic and attention to detail led to a tremendous amount of respect within the industry. Dick treated each professional relationship with a personal touch having an innate ability to make each person he worked with a friend.
Richard was an active member of The Moose Lodge in West Duluth, serving on the Ritual Team; winning both state and national awards. He was an avid sports fan especially fervent about his Penn State Nittany Lions and the next upcoming big fight. A lifelong Roman Catholic he was an active member of St. Michael's Church in Duluth and Divine Mercy of Peterborough.
He was a vociferous reader of non-fiction reveling in the next Book of the Month's Club's historical selection. In addition he was a collector of British mystery series adding each years episodes to his ever expanding collection. Dick also enjoyed the company of the many cats that found a home with him over the years.
Most importantly he served as an inspiration to families and friends alike by tackling a lifelong series of medical problems with never ending enthusiasm and a positive outlook. His keen sense of humor endeared Richard to the hearts of many leaving them with a smile on their face upon each encounter with him.
Richard is survived by two children: Marc (Rachel), of Superior, WI and Curt of Jacksonville, FL; a brother Bob of Peterborough, NH; sisters Karen (Ken) Defriesse of Redding, CT, Janet (Fred) Storey of West Hartford, CT, and Nancy Nelson of Peterborough, NH.
A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Church in Darien. A memorial service will also be held in Duluth with the date to be announced at a later time.
