David Albert Koch passed away peacefully in his home on November 30, 2017, in Darien, CT after a long fight with brain cancer. He was 43. Mr. Koch was born on June 17, 1974, in Cleveland, OH to his parents Al and Bonnie. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1996 with a Bachelor of Business Administration, and from Columbia University in 2004 with a Master of Business Administration. In 2006, he married Heath Friedman, whom he met at Columbia. They shared a love of live music, competitive sports, traveling, and karaoke. Mr. Koch was a member of the initial investment team that founded Melvin Capital Management, an industry-leading long-short equity fund. He also was a devoted husband and father, a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan, a Michigan Wolverines faithful, and an all-around star athlete whose zest for life was both tireless and infectious. Mr. Koch is survived by his wife, Heath; his sons, Xavier and Quentin; his daughter, Hollis; his parents, Al and Bonnie; and his brothers, Brad, Donald, and Bob. Mr. Koch will be buried in a private ceremony on December 5, 2017. A celebration of his life will take place on the evening of January 5, 2018, in New York City.
