Obituary of Edward Ralph Mallozzi
Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward Ralph Mallozzi of New Canaan, CT passed away at his home on Thursday afternoon surrounded by family. He was 67 years old. He was the son of the late Robert E. and Caroline Chianelli Mallozzi. A native of Darien, Mr. Mallozzi will be remembered by most as an energetic and friendly owner of Bob's Sports Incorporated in downtown New Canaan. A consummate artist and musician who never arrived at a party without a guitar and joke, Mr. Mallozzi possessed a unique sense of enthusiasm and fun that deeply touched those fortunate to have interacted with him.
Mr. Mallozzi graduated from Darien High School in 1962 and the University of Vermont in 1966. While at the University of Vermont, Mr. Mallozzi began playing with his two dear friends as a member of the Green Mountain Boys, a traditional folk music group that would continue to play across New England throughout his life. His love of music and performing would span such venues as New York City's The Bitter End as well as locally the Carriage Barn at Waveny Park.
Professionally, Mr. Mallozzi was a co-partner in Caroline Realty of New Canaan and a vice president of Bob's Sports Incorporated, a family sporting goods store established in 1937 in New Canaan and Stamford, CT. While running the Stamford store on Bedford Street, Mr. Mallozzi was the President of the Bedford Street Association and a member of the Stamford Downtown Council. He also served on the Boards of the New Canaan Country School and the Horizons Student Enrichment Program in New Canaan. He was an active member of the Country Club of New Canaan, the Nantucket Yacht Club and a former coach and member at the New Canaan Winter Club. Mr. Mallozzi was an avid outdoor and sports enthusiast, yet his greatest passions were his family and music.
Mr. Mallozzi is survived by his wife Dana, sons Cooper and Spencer, their wives Carrie and Whitney, and two granddaughters Hattie and Annie. He is also survived by his brother Robert and his wife Phyllis, their children Rob and Andrea, and many extended family members. Mr. Mallozzi's spirit will continue to live on through the catalogs of music left behind and by the soft grace with which he lived each day.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday April 25 at St. John R.C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Noroton, CT at 2:00 PM. There will be a private family interment at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Horizons Student Enrichment Program, P. O. Box 997, New Canaan, CT 06840 or the American Cancer Society, I-91 Tech Center, 825 Brook Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067. The Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, Darien is handling the funeral arrangements.
