Doug was authentic and kind, and abundantly generous in myriad ways. Ill never forget how he, along with Chris and Liz in tow, assisted with my out-of-state move shortly after starting what would become my three-year term as the Calbys nanny. I often reflect on those spirited years with tremendous gratitude and admiration for both Karen and Doug. Their abundantly joyful home was invariably filled with laughter, warmth, faith and above all, love. In fond remembrance, Erica English Bergmann

We are so saddened by Doug's passing, and wish we could be with you at this time. The way Doug approached life was an inspiration. He was one of the most dedicated individuals we know. He was dedicated to his family, his friends, his church, his career, and to living life well. We are all better because of the many ways he chose to dedicate himself. Our thoughts and prayers are with Karen, Chris, and Liz.

The day before yesterday I lost my father. The hospital called and I was at his bedside when he passed. I came home, checked my e-mail and read the terrible news about Doug. Doug was "all that". I don't know how to say it any better. He was a man of immense intellect, good humor and honesty. During the two years I worked for Doug he was a mentor, a leader and a personal inspiration to me. In the twenty some years since I worked directly for Doug he has been a mentor, a leader and a personal inspiration to me. Some things never change. One of Doug's many endearing traits was his unabashed love for his family. On many occasions Doug plainly said how much he loved Karen and how lucky he was to have Karen by his side during his fight with cancer. He spoke about Chris and Liz with pride, awe and admiration I don't know if there is a corollary to Facebook in heaven. However, if there is such a thing, my Dad and Doug Calby should both be at the top of each other's list of "people you should meet". I can imagine the two of them now. "Yo, Rip - you're just making this up as you go? No outline? Everything is better if you start with an outline.". "Ah, heck Doug - I tried to teach him but he just wouldn't listen. Often wrong but never in doubt.". I can hear the two of them laughing from here.

To my second family, I am so sorry for your great loss. I had the honor and privledge to live with Doug and Karen for 6 years as their first nanny to their wonderful 2 children. The life lessons and love that Doug and Karen showed to each other will forever be instilled in me. I want their family to know that they taught me that life can be short and to always respect and love your partner. From the very beginning of their relationship they were tested by God. They never took that for granted and because of their faith and guidance I am a better wife and mother to my family. My prayers are with all of you. Glenda Compton Branson

Our deepest sympathies go out to Karen, Chris, Liz and the Calby family. Doug was a true partner in every sense of the word to his colleagues at Accenture. Always willing to help and provide a laugh when that was needed. Never thinking of himself but only how to help you be successful. I will miss his advice and straight talk. Doug and I shared a love of Maine and I will fondly remember him talking for years about building his dream house in Yarmouth. We also have a house in Maine and were recently talking about getting together up there this summer.

We mourn the loss of our friend and partner, Doug Calby. I will miss our lunches at Patsy's, Red-Eye Grill, Keene's and even once up at Cornell. Doug frequently offered advice, support and inspiration on kids, cars, clients, homebuilding and, of course, wine. We were fortunate to have worked together over many years, and enjoyed leisure time after winding down, especially in Yarmouth and Bethel.
