Obituary of John Francis Price

John Francis Price, of Darien, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 11. He was at home with his beloved wife Elizabeth and his three children by his side. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, his integrity and his unfailing commitment to his family. He was born the son of Cynthia and Francis Price in Wolverhampton, England on April 13, 1941. When he was a boy he attended Chichester School for Boys and later became a certified accountant in Rhodesia. He and Liz spent a lifetime together, were married for 45 years and lived together on three continents. John spent the majority of his professional life working for Lonrho in England, Africa and New York. The last fifteen years of his career were spent in New York as President of Princess Hotels. In his retirement years he truly became a part of the Darien community. He served on the Darien Representative Town Meeting, the board of directors of the Country Club of Darien, was an active member of St Luke's Episcopal Church, and was a town election official. However, all who knew him knew that his heart was truly in his golf game. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, his sisters Jane and Anne, his children Andrew, Susan and Jennifer, and his grandchildren Nathan, Kieran, Kelly and Megan and, surprisingly, his treasured dog Polly. He was an Englishman to the end, but he always carried in his heart fond memories of the Zambian people after sixteen years in that country. He then proudly adopted America as his home and became a citizen in 1993, truly believing in all the good this country embodies. Services with be held at St Luke's Episcopal Church in Darien on Tuesday, April 19 at 11 am. While on vacation in Zambia, John and Liz visited Kasisi Children's Home. This orphanage for children affected by AIDS touched both of their hearts, and since then they have worked to raise money to help the children of Kasisi.
