Obituary of Helen Barbara Bestercy

Helen B. Bestercy, age 86, a life long resident of Stamford, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011 in Stamford. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Zamba Bestercy. Helen graduated from Stamford High School in 1943 and worked for Pitney Bowes in Stamford for 46 years, from 1943 to 1989. She was a faithful member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Darien. She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Bestercy and Dorothy Malachowski of Stamford and was predeceased by three sisters, Anna Bestercy, Elizabeth Jerabek and Mary J. Miller, all of Stamford. She was the devoted aunt of Barbara Martin of Naples, FL; Edward J. Miller and wife, Marilyn, of Littleton, CO; Maryann Miller-Brown of Raynham, MA; and, Robert Malachowski and wife, Liz, of Stamford. She was the proud great-aunt of Christopher Miller and Caroline of Littleton, CO; Melissa Galvan and husband, Ralph, of King of Prussia, PA; Lauren Brown of Santa Monica, CA; and, Katie Daigle and husband, Matt, of Wethersfield, CT. She was also the doting great-great-aunt of Nicholas, Shaelyn and Gabriella Galvan. Helen lived a life of prayer and unselfish dedication to the care and well-being of her family. We treasured her continual outpouring of unconditional love and will cherish her memory in our hearts forever. A private viewing for family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 23rd from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her honor on Saturday, July 23rd at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien. Interment will immediately follow at St. John's Cemetery in Springdale. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Franciscan Sisters, Our Lady Star of the Sea, 1216 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902.
