Obituary of Helen F. Campbell

Helen F. Campbell, 79, of New Canaan, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2017 at her home in New Canaan. Helen was born in New York City on April 22, 1938. She spent her childhood on Long Island in Nassau Shores and Oldfield Point. She graduated from Amityville High School and continued on to receive her degree from St. Lawrence University. Helen worked for the Ford Foundation in New York and as a social worker on Long Island in her early career. After moving to Connecticut, she worked for several other local companies and also worked for AmeriCares. She most enjoyed being with her family, loved being a grandmother to her six grandchildren and enjoyed gardening and spending time at Sprite Island Yacht Club in Norwalk Sound where her family has been members for nearly 40 years. Helen was also actively involved in volunteering and held leadership positions in many town organizations including South School PTO, Suburbanites, Newcomers, New Canaan Parents for Drug Awareness, League of Women Voters, the Red Cross and the Democratic Town Committee. Helen is survived by her husband of 57 years, Colin Campbell, her brother Walter Flesche of Brattleboro, VT, her three children, Douglas (Kathy) Campbell of New Canaan and Essex, CT, Cameron (Erin) Campbell of Smithtown, NY, and Jennifer (Alan) Robins of Needham, MA and her grandchildren Lauren Campbell, Maria Campbell and Alec, Cameron and Caty Robins. Helen is predeceased by her grandson Colin Campbell, her parents Virginia and Howard Flesche, and her brother Stephen Flesche. A memorial service will be held on Thursday June 15th at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan at 178 Oenoke Ridge. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps., the Connecticut Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association or Doctors Without Borders.
