William A. Frate Sr., a life long resident of Darien, CT, died at Honey Hill Health Care facility in Norwalk on Thursday July 28th 2011. He was born in Darien CT on August 1, 1931 to the late Gennaro W. Frate and Lottie Finch Frate. He was 79. Mr. Frate graduated from Darien High School class of 1949. He also graduated class of 1950 from Trinity Pawling, and class of 1954 from Harvard. Mr. Frate was a standout athlete while attending all three schools in Football, Basketball, and Baseball.
Bill was a long time Stock Broker with Janney, Montgomery Scott before he retired to the family business at the Darien News Store. During the 1970's and 1980's, Bill was active inlocal Republican politics. He was also a longtime member and past President of both the Darien Lions Club and the Piedmont Club. In addition, he was a member of the Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge and a member of the Harvard Club. William also served as Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army. William is survived by his wife Anne Weed Frate of Darien, his son William A. Frate Jr. and his wife Dawn of Darien, a daughter Kathryn Ann Frate of North Kingstown, RI, and his two grandchildren; Danielle Frate of Webster, MA and Corey Frate of Darien. He was pre-deceased by one son Michael S. Frate. Calling Hours will be held at The Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Boston Post Road, Darien CT, 06820 on Sunday July 31, 2011 from 4:00PM-7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John's RC Church, 1986 Boston Post Road, Darien CT 06820, on Monday August 1 2011, at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien. Memorial Donations may be made to the Darien Lions Club, P.O. Box 144, Darien, CT 06820, or the Piedmont Association, Attention Scholarship Fund, 152 Hecker Ave., Darien, CT 06820
