Obituary of Roger Carrington Howes

Roger Carrington Howes, a resident of Darien, passed away on August 31, 2014 in Darien. Born December 12, 1924 in New Rochelle, NY, he was the son of the late Allen P. and Marian Hudson Howes. He was 89. Roger graduated with a B.S. degree from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. He was owner of Howes Real Estate and Appraisal Co. He served with the U.S. Navy from December 1942 to January 1946 as a signalman on the U.S.S. Clinton and U.S.S. Miller. He was a member of the American Legion. Roger enjoyed fishing with his father's friend, Albert Einstein, on Lake Kiwassa in New York when he was a teenager. He loved animals and wildlife especially his large English Mastiff dogs. He also enjoyed gardening, refinishing furniture, photography and a good joke. Roger is survived by his wife, Mary Francis Lantry Howes; his two sons, Scott W. Howes and his wife Pamela Maestri-Howes of Easton, CT; Mark K. Howes and his wife Karen L. Howes of Nunda, NY; and two grandchildren, Jeffrey Howes and Kimberly McTarnathan. He was predeceased by his brother Allen Howes of Lake Forest, IL. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Union Memorial Church, 58 Church Street, Stamford.
