Obituary of Martha C. Miller

Martha C. Miller, a long term resident of Darien died on May 12, 2008 at the Skilled Nursing Unit at Edgehill in Stamford, Connecticut where she had been living for the past year. Born April 6, 1923, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Martha Kate was the daughter of the late Mary B. Noel and Ray Childress. Mrs. Miller received her BA degree from Central College, Pella, Iowa, and her MA from the Chicago Theological Seminary at the University of Chicago. She had a rich and varied professional career: acted on network radio and television, played cello in several symphonies and chamber groups, was Fine Arts Editor for two newspapers, and taught at four universities. For the last thirty years of her life Mrs. Miller focused primarily on writing, teaching and counseling in the areas of theology and spirituality. A member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Darien, she was active in many aspects of that community. In addition for 14 years she taught the work of Teilhard de Chardin in the Guild for Spiritual Guidance. For more than three years she appeared throughout the country in a one-woman play on the second half of life that she wrote and performed for the national Episcopal Church. She is survived by her son, Brian D. Gold of Forest Row England, Brian's wife Melanie and their children Alicia and William. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke's Church in Darien in July.
