Obituary of Marjorie Christine Young
Please share a memory of Marjorie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
After a three year battle with Alzheimer's Disease, Marjorie Christine Young, a long time Darien resident, died peacefully on Thursday morning, October 6, 2011. Born in Montreal, Quebec, on September 9, 1928, Marge leaves behind her daughter Nancy Ourricariet and grandchildren Elizabeth and Alexander of San Jose, California, her son Glenn Young and grandson Brandon of Chicago. Marge will be missed by her cherished sister Frances Norkett and brother-in-law Authur of Ottawa, dear friends from Canada, the U.S. and abroad and her loyal care provider Cynthia Penn of Stamford. Marge joins her husband of 58 years Douglas, whom she met and began dating in high school in Montreal, and preceded her in August of 2008. Marge lived in Montreal, Chicago and London while Doug was employed as a newsprint sales vice-president before settling in Darien. During her life Marge was a skilled organizer, coordinator, strategist and "household engineer." Marge had a wonderfully dry sense of humor and could gamely maintain her poker face as she beat you at any card or board game: She was an ace bridge player. Marge volunteered her organizational knowledge for many years at the DCA and managed the "60 Plus Club." Marge enjoyed traveling, handicrafts and was an expert knitter and baker.
Marge's ashes will be sprinkled on Long Island Sound, one of her favorite destinations. There are no calling hours. To honor Marge's memory, memorials may be donated to the Alzheimer's Association CT Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
