Susanne M. Peterson (nee Wood) 89 of Beaufort SC passed away peacefully in Charleston, SC on November 26 2024 following complications from surgery.

Susanne was born in Bronx, NY on February 21, 1935, the daughter of Noel and Madeline Wood. She attended Catholic schools and met her husband of nearly seventy years, John, at St Nicholas of Tolentine High School. They were married in June 1955. After moving to different places for John's Marine Corps service and career, they settled in Darien, CT and raised their four children. A gourmet cook, Susanne was an incredible hostess known for presiding over many dinner parties, family gatherings, and brunches throughout the years. Later in life, John's career allowed them to travel the world and to live abroad in Munich, Germany and Provence, France. An avid reader, Susanne's favorite places were in a quiet corner reading and at her dinner table surrounded by her loving family. Following John's retirement, Susanne and John moved to Dataw Island, SC where they enjoyed the low country life and many wonderful friends.

Susanne is survived by her husband John, her children John Peterson, Ellen Pishvanov, and Nancy Sweeney (John). Her son-in-law Charles Simon (Karen), eight beloved grandchildren: Nick Pishvanov (Tiffani), Kimm Dorsch ( Kyle), Kristin Roberts ( Aiden), Brian Sweeney (Libby), Fatima Sweeney, Catherine Sweeney, Emma Simon and Anna Peterson and one great grandson (Lincoln Dorsch). Susanne was predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth Simon and son-in-Nick Pishvanov.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas More Church in Narragansett, Rhode Island. A memorial mass will also be held at St. Peter's Church in Lady's Island, SC early next year. Burial will be at a later date at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.
