Obituary of Margaret M. Massie
Margaret (Molly) Doberneck Massie passed away on Wednesday, August 7 in Milford, CT.
Molly was born in Minneapolis, MN to Dr. Raymond Doberneck and Anne Schacherer Doberneck on February 16, 1965, the fourth child and third daughter in a rambunctious family. She grew up in Albuquerque, NM, and graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1987. She moved to New York to pursue a career in fashion and graduated from Parsons School of Design in 1988.
After graduating from Parsons, Molly worked as a buyer and sales manager at Banana Republic in New York. She also spent time in various roles at Vineyard Vines, Vince, Rag & Bone, and Gut Reaction. Her career in fashion and retail never surprised anyone, as Molly was always the most fashionable person in the room. Her sisters, in particular, benefited from their beloved sister's fashion acumen, constant support, and sense of humor.
Molly was an avid needle pointer, an incredible athlete, a wonderful chef, a caring dog mom to her pug, Violet, and loved to help those in need. But what she cherished and valued most was being a loving and devoted mother to her two sons, Will and Jack. Will and Jack were the delights of her existence, and she loved them beyond measure.
Molly is survived by her father, Dr. Raymond Doberneck of Albuquerque, NM, her sisters Susan Doberneck (Gary, Lauren and Kate, of Carson City, NV), Elizabeth Doberneck (David and Omar, of New City, NY), Megan Doberneck (Owen and Sebastian, of Denver, CO), and Sarah Doberneck (of Portland, OR), and her brother, Michael Doberneck (of Albuquerque, NM). Molly is also survived by her former husband, Ron Massie of Darien, CT, and her sons, Jack Massie and Will Massie, both of New York, NY. She is preceded by her mother, Anne Doberneck, of Albuquerque, NM.
A visitation will be held at Lawrence Funeral Home on Thursday, August 15 from 5pm – 8pm EST. A funeral service will be held at St. Thomas More Church at 10:30am EST on Friday, August 16.
