Obituary of Cheryl Susan Beusch

Please share a memory of Cheryl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Cheryl (Beusch) Washecka, age 56, passed away on June 22, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones and had the rare gift of spending time with her closest friends and family during her final days. Cheryl was raised in Stow, Massachusetts. As a child, she loved kittens, painting, baking cookies, authoring and directing backyard performances involving her entire neighborhood, and playing classical piano. She was highly driven and strong academically, pursuing a double major in Economics and Statistics at the University of Rochester and graduating with honors. She settled in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston after graduation, working in financial services before leaving for New York City to pursue an MBA in Finance at Columbia University. At Columbia, Cheryl met her future husband, Ed. The pair stayed in New York City, where Cheryl launched a decades-long successful career as a high-yield bond analyst and fund manager. In New York, Cheryl and Ed had two children, Rory and Alec, before moving to Darien in 2003. Cheryl always said that her children were her greatest accomplishment, and she adored spending time with her family. They enjoyed summer weekends in Cape Cod with Cheryl's parents and sister and celebrated Christmas holidays with Ed's family in Florida. They loved to travel, most recently embarking on a 10-day trip to Rome in April to visit Alec while he studied abroad. Cheryl was instrumental in helping her children succeed and supported her husband in all of his career endeavors. Cheryl loved her community in Darien. She was active in local book groups and served as a Captain's Mom for DHS Track & Field and DHS Football. She was also involved with the Yale Club of New York City. She appreciated a strong cup of coffee, a rare bargain, the theatre, fresh seafood and a glass of wine, long walks in the park or on the beach, lazy afternoons spent reading, good conversations on the phone, and driving with or visiting her kids whenever possible. Cheryl will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her Loving Husband Ed, her daughter Rory and Son Alec. Cheryl is also survived by her parents, John and Donna Beusch, her sister, Laura Beusch, her brothers and sisters in law, James Washecka (AnnMarie), Lesley Washecka, Lynne Huebner (Jude) and a loving extended family. Those lucky enough to be close with Cheryl will forever remember her witty sense of humor, intelligence, empathetic nature, and devotion to being an incredible mother, wife, and friend. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Thomas More at 374 Middlesex Road in Darien on Monday, July 1st at 10:30am.
