Lea Daisy (Young) Nixon of Stamford, CT died Sunday, May 5, 2024, at the age of 98. Lea was born October 26, 1925, in Wahalak, Mississippi. One of six children born to Olevia (Rogers)Young and Edward Young, Lea grew up in Alliance, Ohio. Determined to educate herself, as a young woman Lea moved to New York City to train for a career in nursing. In 1946, having completed all degree requirements at the Lincoln School for Nurses, she was licensed as a registered nurse in the State of New York. She went on to work in the medical field for nearly 40 years, advancing in her career to become head nurse at Trafalgar Hospital in New York City, then to Director of Infection Control and Quality Assurance at Brooklyn Hospital. In 1977, while working at Brooklyn Hospital, she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Joseph’s College in New York, an accomplishment she was thrilled and proud to have made. She retired after serving as Nursing Administrative Manager at St. Joseph Medical Center in Stamford, Connecticut.

Following a private, family service at the Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien, CT Lea was interred at the State of Connecticut Veterans’ Cemetery in Middletown, CT beside her husband James I. Nixon, Jr. who predeceased her by one year. Both Lea and Jim were active socially and in civic organizations in the Stamford community.

Lea is survived by two daughters, Danita Brown and Susan Dent; by eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
