She was born on March 3, 1926 in S. Norwalk to Carmine & Anna (Falandys) Gazero. She grew up in Norwalk on Bouton Street and attended Norwalk Schools, she graduated from Norwalk High School in 1943.

As a young girl Dorothy would regularly walk to bring her father lunch at the Hat Factory, she would keep it warm in a porcelain pail which she recently found, bringing back fond memories. She often talked about walking to school no matter what the weather and only sometimes being able to take the bus. As a sign of summers' end Dorothy and her siblings would stomp on their father's straw hat.

After graduation Dorothy worked for the Nash Engineering Company during World War II. Helping to manufacture pumps for the war ships. This is where she met some of her lifelong friends.

Dorothy met her husband James Gartrell from Darien on a double date. They married on February 1, 1947. They had two sons, James Charles and Thomas Samuel Gartrell.

After having her sons Dorothy was a Homemaker but returned to work once her children were of school age. She started at The Bakery in Tokeneke and then worked as a Bookkeeper for The Dunning Corp. in Darien, The Degeezer Corp in Derby, The UN in New York and finishing her career at Sunburst Plumbing & Heating in Ridgefield, CT

She was a member of the Darien Fire Dept Women's Aux, she enjoyed bowling and baking. Dorothy would bake some of the most amazing cakes for birthdays, weddings and holidays.

She is blessed with three Grandchildren; Ian (Tara) Gartrell of Norwalk, CT, Eliza (Michael) Mann Uncasville CT, Isabella Gartrell of Oxford, CT; and a Great-Grandson Charlie Rex Gartrell.

She was predeceased by her parents Carmine and Anna, her sisters Catherine & Leonora, her husband James and her son James Charles Gartrell.
