Obituary of John Stephen Geoghegan

John Stephen Geoghegan a long time Darien resident, died on Tuesday May 9, 2023 at his home. He was 98 years young born February 11, 1925 in Memphis, Tennessee. The son of John and Lily Geoghegan. He is also survived by his two sisters, Lily Wildey and Lois Doherty and predeceased by his sister Edith Bell.

John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty whom he was married to for almost 60 years until her death in 2004. He is survived by his son John Geoghegan of Marina, CA. Predeceased by his son Robert Geoghegan and survived by his son Edward Geoghegan and his daughter-in-law Stephanie Maker-Geoghegan. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren Jessica, Johnny, Madelyn, Elizabeth and Skylar.

John worked at Norden Systems for many years in Norwalk, CT.

John was also a military WWII Navy Veteran and War hero receiving a Purple Heart for his service and being shot in the line of duty. He served actively in the US Navy during WWII and in the Navy reserves until 1975. During WWII he was awarded the distinguished flying cross for successfully guiding his aircraft to a safe landing onto the US Wasp aircraft carrier with the use of radio controls.

John had a love for flying and continued to fly planes way until his late 70's.

He was a member of the Darien Senior Men's Association and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was a long time member of the United Church of Rowayton.

A memorial service will be held on Friday May 19th at 10:00am at the United Church of Rowayton, 210 Rowayton Ave., Norwalk, CT 06853.

He will be loved and missed.
