Obituary of Patricia M. Coleman

Patricia M. Coleman of Darien, Connecticut, loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the age of 76. 

Trish was born in Staten Island, New York to John Patrick McCusker and Rose Rodriguez. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fordham University. She spent most of her life in and around New York City where she met her husband, William Richard Coleman, whom she married in 1984. They had one child, Alexandra Rose Coleman.

Trish was known to light up a room with her beautiful and welcoming smile, joyful energy, and compassionate spirit. She was a tremendous supporter of her husband Bill’s career as well as of his many sporting activities. She also took an avid interest in her daughter Alex’s academic, professional, and personal pursuits and cherished spending time with her grandchildren Leah, Jack, Elizabeth, and Wyatt. 

She was a loyal, thoughtful and generous friend to many. Not a birthday or holiday from New Year’s to Christmas would pass without Trish sending a card, note, message, or making a phone call just to let you know that she was thinking of you.

Trish was a skilled and gracious hostess and made the Coleman home as welcoming as her smile. Her family and friends and a whole generation of their children found it a happy destination, especially on holidays. There was always an invitation to stop by before, during or after a holiday meal, which created many treasured memories. She was a talented decorator and cook and her dessert table was so extraordinary that it earned requests for recipes from friends of all ages.

Trish’s interests were wide and varied. She was an avid Yankees fan and loved going to the ballpark with Bill and their friends. She was a great source of recommendations for movies and books. She recently reinstituted a book group and hosted weekly Mahjong games for her friends. She loved to struggle with golf.  

Trish was preceded in death by her father Pat and her sister Jan McCusker. She is survived by her husband Bill, her mother Rosie, her daughter Alex and son-in-law Chris Connelly, her stepdaughter Meredith Lockhart, her four cherished grandchildren, her sister Corinne Curtis, her nieces Madeline and Danielle, and many cousins.

Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Susan G. Komen organization in support of breast cancer research.
