Received the Spring 2023 copy of Fort Schuyler and saw the announcements of the passing of Pete Peers '79, John McCarthy '80, Dave Wooley '80, and Doug McKay, '80. I had heard about Dave earlier in the year. Doug passing is a real shock. Doug roomed across from me in our MUG year. I think the first or second day that we had moved in my door was open, a radio was playing and this guy across the way, yelled BRUCE!!!!!, barged in, and cranked the radio up all the way. A Pink Floyd fan this was my very first introduction to Springstein and Doug McKay. Doug was a force of nature. He ACED everything with elan, alacrity and seemingly effortlessly. I assume he had a photographic memory, was a genius or both. An absolutely amazing man. An engineer, I heard he later got a law degree (it seems like everyone got a law degree) and won his very first court case with flair. The world is a lesser place without Doug McKay.

I have great memories of Doug (Duke) throughout the past 40+ years. I am honored to have had him as a friend and he will be deeply missed by all who came in contact with him. He always had a way of bringing people together for the common good of all. His wit was incredible! My sincere condolences to the entire McKay family. “Every day is a gift”.

Doug’s selflessness and generosity had a big impact on me. Will always remember his leadership (cooking!) at St John’s bfasts and Homecare.
When Doug was present all good and joyful things (fellowship, communion, brotherhood, food and laughter!) just flowed! He made all things fun!
God bless you Doug!!

Please accept my condolences. Doug was a colleague and friend at Con Edison. His thirst for life and people and courage to always speak up and do the right thing were inspiring to me and so many others. We miss him deeply. You are in my thoughts.

From the first time we met that summer of 1976 and SUNY Maritime College in da Bronx, right up until our ski trip in Montana this past spring, Doug has always been a wonderful friend to all who knew him. That ability to bring everybody together, whether it was for just having a great time or for a work weekend up at our ski club, Doug was the organizer, but never the center of attention, unless of course he was telling a story and boy can he tell a story. The world is going to be a little less organized with Doug gone so we're all going to have to step up and grab the reins because that's what Duke would want us to do.
Remember- Life is a gift.
Fair winds and following seas shipmate.
Finished with Engines.
We already miss you Duke.

From our days at Cardinal Spellman, to all the various Montauk pleasures, Dougie’s lighthearted, playful personality was always welcome in our often overly stressed group of people! He is gone way too soon and will greatly be missed.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Douglas McKay. I vividly remember 1982 when Doug joined us in the Con Ed Law Department. He brought a beaming smile, a jolly laugh, a sharp wit, a probing mind and a deep faith. He also came aboard with the discipline and insight of having been a graduate of New York Maritime College. I appreciated having a fellow veteran on our staff. He was always squared away, and mission centered. He could focus on details, as well as the overall objective.
He was humble, truly the salt of the earth. He practice law with a passion for finding the truth in each case he tried. He inspired those who worked with him to do likewise. He built teams and deftly steered his team to work in harmony toward our task. He was a mentor and role model for all who worked with him. Douglas is one of the most Christlike men I have ever met. I firmly believe he has heard Our Lord’s words, “ Welcome Douglas, Well done, my good and faithful servant “
Peter Hagan. Con Ed Law Department 1972-2014.

My condolences to the extended McKay family for this sudden, untimely passing. I was lucky to have worked with Doug for a few decades. You could do no better. DJM could simplify a complex case with his practical knowledge of how things work. He knew how people work as well. His warm smile was disarming, and he would talk with anyone openly, including scoundrels on the other side in the courtroom. He was quite proud of his family. He is in our prayers.

I had the great pleasure to get to know Doug over the past many years, working with him in his role at Con Edison. He was always a true professional, an expert is his field...and a warm, friendly guy who was always a pleasure to be around. My sincerest condolences to the McKay family. While we are all left to wrestle with the emotions of losing a truly good man, his faith tells me that he is in a better place. May he rest in peace.

So sad to read about Doug’s passing. First met Doug during his Y-Guides years. He was so genuine, entertaining and caring. Got to know him even more on those late train rides home from NYC to Darien. Always smiling with a great sense of humor. He will be missed. God bless.

I am so saddened to hear this. I saw Doug during my commute for many years and he always gave me a friendly smile and had something nice to say. He also did an amazing job with the Indian Princesses and Guides and made it so great for the kids. The world lost a good one on Friday. He'll be missed. My condolences to his immediate and extended family.
