Obituary of John Allen
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Allen, 72, of Wilton, CT, died on Monday, December 20th, 2021.
John was born in October of 1949 in Brooklyn, NY, and grew up in Rowayton, CT, alongside his three brothers. He attended Brien McMahon High School and ran with a group of friends known as the neurotic nine. While John was a talented wrestler, his mind was his biggest strength, gravitating to chemistry and calculus. He went to Tufts University, graduating with a hard-earned degree in Chemical Engineering, which he never used, instead opting to work in construction for most of his life.
John's ability to recall names and numbers was impressive. He could also out-perform your GPS and do math in his head before you could pull out your calculator. He was extremely hardworking, resourceful, efficient, and skillful in his frugality.
John knew what he liked. He drove the same car brand for over 40 years and filled his closet with the same style of jeans and a rainbow assortment of button-up shirts—all with two chest pockets. He never met a vegetable that he liked and unapologetically ate like a six-year-old until his last day. Most will remember him as sporting a beard and ponytail.
A hardworking grump with a bad back, John's heart of gold was evident through his generosity. He helped countless friends, loaned money, and was the top purchaser of his sons' music.
John spent much of his last ten years at his friend Patti's house, where he arrived early every morning with coffee and carrots to care for the horses and enjoy the company of his beloved canine friends.
He is predeceased by brothers Jim and Peter.
He is survived by his former wife Linda Allen, as well as Amanda Tarrant, brother Fred Allen (Merilese Fernschild), two sons Marc Allen (Lea Allen) and Adam Allen (Lindsey Allen-Wells), grandson Linus Allen, and niece Jasmine Prodonovich (Crash Prodonovich).
An informal celebration of his life will be held on February 6th, 2022 at Redding Beer Company. 7 Main St., Redding, CT 06896. 11 am - 2 pm. Contact Leo at (203) 770-0155.
