Obituary of Victor Vargha

Victor "Poppy" Vargha, a resident of Norwalk since 1969, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 7th. He was born on September 5, 1926 in Budapest, Hungary. Mr. Vargha graduated from Corvinus University of Budapest and worked as an accounting manager. After fighting in WWII, he made a treacherous escape during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. He lived in Vienna for a few years before immigrating to the United States and eventually settling in Norwalk with his beloved wife, Franciska. Mr. Vargha quickly assimilated to life in the United States and became a controller at Wiltek Corp. in Norwalk until he retired. Yet, he never fully retired, as he was self-employed as a financial planner and performed tax services. During Mr. Varghas free time, he enjoyed spending time with his daughter Christine, granddaughter Katherine and grand dog Theo. Also, he always kept busy and insisted on working, whether it was partaking in projects and renovations on his homes, or helping friends, family, and clients. Mr. Vargha was a steadfast resource. He loved to travel and frequently visited Hungary with his family. In addition, he enjoyed classical music, opera, and was interested in current affairs, and in his later years, he became an exceptional cook, specializing in delicious Hungarian meals. Vermont held a special place in his heart as he relished spending weekends at his country home. Mr. Vargha is predeceased by his wife, Franciska, and survived by his daughter Christine Newkirk from Darien, granddaughter Katherine Newkirk from New Canaan whom he adored. In Hungary, his daughter Dr. Viktoria Vargha and sisters Ida Karoly and Edit Gerlits survive him. He will also be missed by an extensive network of relatives in the United States, Hungary, and throughout the world. The family will receive friends and family at Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Thursday, October 12 from 6:00-8:00 PM. A church service will be on Friday, October 13 at 10:00 AM at St. John Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien, followed by a burial at Spring Grove Cemetery.
