Obituary of Harry F. Crane, Jr.
Harry F. Crane, Jr. passed away at the Long Ridge Nursing Home in Stamford on January 15. Mr. Crane, 93, who had long suffered from Alzheimer's Disease, is lovingly remembered by his son Michael, daughter-in-law Alycia and grandsons Matthew, Austin and Andrew. Mr. Crane had been married for 60 years to his wife Rose who died in 2002. They were an elegant couple that enjoyed dancing and listening to the music of Frank Sinatra. In World War II Mr. Crane served as a tail gunner in the Army Air Corps and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. His squadron successfully flew 30 missions, including the first nighttime raid on Berlin. Following the war, Mr. Crane worked in the boroughs of New York City as a beer salesman for over 40 years with Rheingold and later with Anheuser Busch. Mr. Crane was known for his unfailing good cheer, grace and self-effacing wit. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John R.C. Church, Darien on Thursday, January 19th. A private family interment will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to RE Children's Project, an organization devoted to searching for a cure for Rasmussen's Encephalitis.
