Obituary of Julian Richard Adair Divett

Julian Richard Adair Divett, longtime resident of Darien, loving husband and father, died in Norwalk Hospital on February 20th. Julian was born on February 23, 1935 in Hong Kong, to Geoffrey and Eileen Divett. At the time of the Japanese Invasion Julian, his brother, and mother were evacuated to Sydney, Australia where he grew up. It was there, along with his "mates" that he developed a deep love of the surf and swimming and a passion for Rugby. He enjoyed following the Wallabies and later refereeing at the University level in the United States. Julian came to New York City in 1965, first working for J. Walter Thompson and then switching careers going into finance. Julian was a member of the Tokeneke Club and a past President, a place where he loved swimming in Long Island Sound and playing tennis. Julian is survived by Mary, his wife of 52 years, daughters Justine and Alexa, his sister Felicity, her husband Tom, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eileen, his father Geoffrey and his brother Derek Divett. There will be a service to celebrate Julian's life at St. Luke's Church, Darien, Saturday, April 18th at 10am.
