Obituary of George Avery, Jr.

George Avery, Jr. a long time resident of Darien, CT, passed way on Wednesday, April 11, 2006 at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY. Born March 8, 1932 in Darien, CT, he was the eldest son of the late George and Jenny (Russo) Avery. He was 74. Mr. Avery graduated from Darien High School. He served with the U. S. Army in Korea during the Korean War. He was a retired driver for Leonard’s Dairy in Darien and also worked for the Darien Housing Authority and Avery Painting Co. He was a volunteer with Noroton Heights Fire Department and a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Darien. He is survived by six children, Patricia Wasil of Sarasota, FL, George Avery, III of Greenwich, CT; Joann Cheney of New York state; Susan Rogers of Garner, NC; Virginia Ostreicher of Medford, OR; Mary Jane Smudde of Colorado Springs, CO and 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Ronald Avery of Bethel, CT; Albert Avery of Lancaster, PA and Clifford Avery of Stamford, CT. His former wife, Elizabeth Carroll of Livingston, MT also survives. He is predeceased by one brother, Roger Avery. Friends may call at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Monday, April 17, 2006 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 988 Post Road, Darien on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at 10:30 AM. A private interment will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.
