Obituary of Stanley van den Heuvel

Stanley van den Heuvel, a resident of Darien, CT for over 45 years, died on Saturday, May 13, 2006. Born November 10, 1917 in New York City, he was the son of the late Antoine and Elizabeth van den Heuvel. Mr. van den Heuvel grew up in Riverdale, NY. He graduated from Riverdale County School in 1936, Princeton University in 1940, and Harvard Law School in 1947. He served as an officer in the Field Artillery of the 37th Division in the South Pacific in World War II. After practicing law for several years, Mr. van den Heuvel joined the Hanover Bank in 1955. He retired from the Manufacturers Hanover Bank in 1982 as the Senior Vice President and Corporate Secretary. He served as the director of the LTC Trust Co. of New York, Goodwill Industries of Greater NY, the Newcomen Society of the U.S., Princeton in Asia, and the American Red Cross Darien Chapter. He was also a member of “The Pilgrims”. He was a member of Kiwanis, the Senior Men’s Association of Darien and the Noroton Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret; son John van den Heuvel of Davis, CA; two daughters Susan Padgett of Davis, CA and Elizabeth Ehrgood of Lebanon, PA; and four grandsons, Michael Padgett and Daniel, Benjamin and Peter Ehrgood. A memorial service will be held at Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Post Road, Darien, CT on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 3:00 PM.
