Obituary of Robert Jackson Kelly, Jr.
Robert Jackson Kelly, Jr., a former longtime resident of Darien, CT, died on Friday, July 7, 2006 after a long battle with cancer. Born January 7, 1934 in New York City, he was the son of the late Robert Jackson and Dorothy Meyers Kelly. He was 72.
Mr. Kelly was a graduate of Fairfield Prep. He attended Lafayette College. While at Lafayette, Mr. Kelly played varsity soccer and lacrosse and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
After two years in the U.S. Army, Mr. Kelly graduated from New York University with a B.S. in Business Administration.
Mr. Kelly started his business career with Raeford Worsted Division of Burlington Industries. He then joined the Joseph & Feiss Co. as a divisional vice president. He then went to work for Macy’s in a corporate merchandising capacity. When Macy’s was sold, Mr. Kelly moved to Forstmann & Co. from where he retired. He was an avid amateur hockey player and was a founding member of the Darien Youth Hockey Association.
Mr. Kelly was predeceased by his wife, Patricia. He is survived by a daughter, Katherine K. Young of New Canaan; two sons, R.J. Kelly III of Wilton and Thomas J. Kelly of Norwalk; and three loving grandchildren, Billy, Sarah and Robert Jackson Kelly IV.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John R.C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at 11:00 AM.
