Thomas R. “Tony” Good, III, age 81, died Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Stamford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Margaret Ruskay Good. Upon graduation, his involvement in sports was directed towards organizing, directing and coaching. As part of his job, he monitored and advised all aspects of German county and city governments, and worked in their democratization program. He helped organize a German Soap Box Derby with Opel Motors. While in Germany, he organized a German youth baseball team for which Stamford High School supplied uniforms. When Tony returned to the Stamford area in 1950, he worked as an Industrial Engineer, Manufacturing Manager for Electric Regulator Corporation in Norwalk. Upon leaving the industrial community, Good became an educator, department head, coach and athletic director at Wright Tech. He coached soccer, basketball and baseball. In the Fairchester baseball league, his Wright Tech team won seven league championships and had two perfect seasons, which included a 31 game winning streak. He was also a co-founder of the Intercity Touch Football League. To honor Tony’s 31 years of teaching and coaching at Wright Tech, the Connecticut State Legislature, in 1995, named the newly renovated gym at the school after him. In addition, the day, April 6, was declared “Thomas R. (Tony) Good Day”. Some of the other honors Tony has received included Fairchester League Coach of the Year, and Darien and Stamford Old Timers Hall of Fame Honor Roll. In addition, Tony has been active in the community. He is a member of the Darien and Stamford Old Timers Associations, the Wright Tech Advisory Committee, Vista Towers Condominium Board of Directors, and the State Street Debating Society.
