Obituary of John Gibb

John Richmond Gibb, a resident of Redding, CT and a former longtime resident of Darien, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2012 at Norwalk Hospital. Born August 31, 1922 in New York City, he was the son of the late John Richmond and Lois Cate Gibb. He was 90. John graduated from Pomfret, attended MIT and NYS Maritime Academy. He was President and Chairman of the History Book Club. He was also treasurer of St. Luke's Episcopal Church for 25 years, on the boards of Norwalk Hospital and the Darien Library. John was on the board of the Melville Charitable Trust for 21 years. In addition, he was President of Wee Burn Country Club where he served on the Board of directors for many years, and was also a member of Sankaty Head Golf Club on Nantucket, and the Mid Ocean Club in Bermuda. John served as an officer in the Navy during World War II. John is survived by his three children, Kathleen Cutler of Pennsylvania, James Gibb of New Jersey and Thomas Gibb of New York City. He is also survived by a half-sister Chloe Wallace. John was predeceased by a brother Philip and a half- brother Scott. A Memorial Service was held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1864 Post Road, Darien on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM.
