Obituary of Anna Concetta Leone Fiorita
Anna Concetta Leone Fiorita, a resident of Darien since 1976, died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, July 11th. She had just joyfully celebrated her 81st birthday surrounded by her family.
Anna was born on July 7, 1932 in Rose, Cosenza in Italy. She married Pietro Fiorita on November 5, 1950. Anna and her husband came to the United States on July 27, 1968, 45 years ago, as immigrants. They came to America to build a better life for their family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Carlo and Rosaria Leone and her brother, Lorenzo. Her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. Anna is survived by her husband of 63 years, Pietro Fiorita of Darien, her son Angelo Fiorita and Carmen Bires of New Jersey, Angelo's children, Krisanne and Marc Faubel, Nadia, Peter Angelo and Marysa Fiorita of Stamford, her daughter Sarina Fiorita and daughter Jessica Gleason of Stamford, her daughter Carla and Peter Catanzaro and their children Peter, Cristina and Anna of Greenwich, daughter Viola and TJ Koproski and their daughters Isabella and Kayla of Darien, and her son Paul and wife Missy and their children Emma, Matthew, John and Lila Grace, also of Darien. Also survived by her siblings, Antonio Leone, Theresa Chiapetta, Viola DeRose, Assunta D'Aiello and Frank Leone, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Anna worked at Stamford Hospital for over 20 years in the nursery. A highlight of her time at the hospital was when she was named The Guardian Angel of an infant, for whom she saved her life.
"Nonna" as she is lovingly referred to, was a hardworking, caring and devoted mother and grandmother, who relied deeply on her faith. She felt privileged to live in the United States and one of her favorite sayings was, "God Bless America!"
Her cooking was second to none. She tended to her plentiful garden and lived off her land. "Mangia, mangia," she would say. Everyone loved eating at Nonna's house, and you never left her kitchen hungry.
Anna C. Fiorita, a life embraced by faith, family, friends and food.
