Obituary of Lily Marie Sandbeck Jansen

Lily Marie Sandbeck Jansen, a resident of Stamford since 1949, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Smith House in Stamford. Born in Beresford, SD on June 4, 1913, Lily was the youngest of five children born to Danish immigrant farmers. She grew up in both South Dakota and Iowa. Eventually Lily moved to Boston where she met and married Carl Jansen, a Norwegian merchant seaman. They married in 1943 and moved to Stamford, CT in 1949. Lily was the director and teacher of Gray Farms Nursery School and was very active at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She is survived by her two sons, John C. Jansen of Bloomfield, NJ and Paul A. Jansen of New York. She was predeceased by her parents, Christian and Juliana (Esuesen) Sandbeck and her husband, Carl Jansen. The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Thursday, January 3, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 884 Newfield Avenue, Stamford on Friday, January 4, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park in Stamford.
