I met Roger in February 1970. I interviewed at Oriel for job as a sales person. After some discussion Roger asked me how much I was making, I told him and he offered me the position at exactly the same salary I was earning at Perkin Elmer. I told him I thought I deserved more since I was taking a chance leaving a good position at a large corporation to work for a small unproven company. His response was that he was taking a chance on me! I thought about his response and took the job. I am so glad I did. I worked closely with Roger for the next 17 years until he sold Oriel. Roger was one of the most influential people in my life. I owe all that I am to him. Although we have not had contact in many years I will always remember him and am continually thankful that we met on that on that February day so many years ago. Allen Smith
