Obituary of Daniel Jenkins

Daniel Jenkins, a Darien resident for 45 years passed away peacefully on October 6th, 2018. He was born in Dover, NJ in 1930 to Katherine Penberthy and Arthur Jenkins and was raised in Short Hills, NJ. He served two years in the U.S. Army and went on to graduate with a B.S. in Finance and Commerce from Bucknell in 1953. Eventually Dan became a general management executive with Union Carbide. His job included a lot of hard work, travel, and golf. He retired from Union Carbide after 30 years of service. After retiring, Dan spent some time working at Ring's End, opened an antique store named Treasures and helped his friend Frank Cicero at Ladder Matters with finances. Dan spent 16 years volunteering at the patient registration desk of Stamford Hospitallogging 4,830 volunteer hours. He made some lasting friends there and enjoyed giving back to the community. Dan is predeceased by his loving and supportive wife of 48 years, Rita Recker Jenkins, who left his side in 2012. His brother, Arthur Jenkins, also predeceased him. Dan lived a long and happy life and is grateful to have had a retirement full of joy, growth and wonderful memories. He felt blessed by his familyespecially his parents, his wife, his children and grandchildren. He lived his last years with his children and grandchildren who liked to play catch, chess and charades with him. He regularly swam at the Darien YMCA, liked to talk about his days volunteering at the Stamford Hospital around the dinner table, enjoyed church services at St. Luke's Church and had an investment group with friends for many years. Dan is survived by his son Arthur Jenkins, daughter Ann Laczko, nephew David Jenkins, grand niece Elizabeth Wolden and his beloved grandchildrenJames Jenkins of South Carolina, Amanda Laczko and April Laczko of Darien, CT. The family asks friends and acquaintances to join in remembrance of Dan at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Monday, October 15th, 2018 between 5 - 8 pm. A memorial service in the Chapel of Saint Luke's, 1864 Post Road, Darien will be on Tuesday, October 16th at 11 am. At Home in Darien graciously provided transportation and friendship to Dan.
