MARY HELEN OBRIEN, age 97, died peacefully on September 12, 2018, in her residence at Maplewood in Darien, CT. Mary was born on July 3, 1921, in Moberly, Missouri, the daughter of John and Margaret Tyrrell. Mary was raised in St. Louis, MO and graduated from Webster College in her home town. In 1947 Mary married Navy Lieutenant William OBrien in St. Louis and began an adventure that took them from St. Louis to Louisville, KY, to Atlanta, GA, to Portland, OR and finally to Greenwich, CT in 1966 where they resided for over 40 years. After her husbands passing in 2008, Mary moved to Darien to be closer to her children. Mary and Bill were active members of St. Michaels Parish and founding members of the Burning Tree Country Club. After raising their five children, Mary began a career as a residential real estate agent in Greenwich with Cleveland, Duble & Arnold where she worked for 18 years. Mary is survived by her children Bill of Seattle, WA, John of Rowayton, CT, Molly OBrien Spinney of NYC, Tim OBrien of Atlanta, GA, and Margaret Brindley of Denver, CO, and the childrens loving spouses, nine grandchildren who adored her and nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews from her brother Johns family from St. Louis. There will be a mass to celebrate Marys life at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 14, 2018 at St. Michael Church, 469 North Street, Greenwich, CT, followed by a private service for immediate family members at St. Marys Cemetery, 399 North Street, Greenwich, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in Marys name to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105. Stjude.org
