Obituary of Edward Alfred Johnson

Ed Johnson, 93, died on December 21st at Norwalk Hospital surrounded by loved ones.
Ed was born on May 28, 1924 in Kearny, New Jersey alongside his twin brother, Thomas to Rose Anne McKenna and Thomas Carl Johnson. Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Alice Coffey Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his twin, Thomas, his sister, Phyllis and his youngest son, Michael Johnson. He is survived by 5 children, Karen Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Elise Petrone (Charles), Patricia Johnson Gould (David), and Anne Eckman (Jonathan) and six grandchildren William and Samuel Petrone, Emma and Caroline Morton and Elena and Angela Gould.
Ed was drafted from high school into the Army Air Corp and served during WW II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a Sergeant in the 2nd Emergency Rescue Squadron in which he served as an airplane and engine mechanic. Their unit rescued over 760 men from the sea.
Ed worked in the transportation industry. He served as Vice President for Liberty Lines located in Yonkers NY for over 20 years and then moved to Carey Limousine where he was Director of Operations out of the NY Area Airports until his retirement. After a few short years Ed decided he needed to keep busy and started working at Enterprise Rent-A-Car into his 80s until Alice insisted he quit.
Ed was a remarkable man, whose warm and witty nature touched many lives. He was a great golfer and was on a championship team in high school; he also enjoyed bird watching from his Rowayton, Connecticut home. He spent most of his last 60 years in Norwalk. After his wife's passing Ed continued living in his own home with his both his sons, Tom and Mike, until Mikes passing. His wife, Alice and his family were the most important things to him. He was a fantastic father and he will be forever missed.
A private burial will be held on Thursday, December 28th at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Labre Indian School www.stlabre.org or Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org/donate or any other organizing that may be near and dear to your heart.
