Obituary of Gladys R. Forbes

Family and friends mourn the loss of Gladys Ritchie Stevenson Forbes of Stamford, CT who died peacefully on August 29th of complications from a stroke. Born in 1924, she was one of four children of William and Mary Stevenson of Scotland. She is survived by her two sons, Alan and William Forbes, three granddaughters, Paula Bleakley, Denise Mirto Moses, and Jody E. Clouse, two grandsons, Alan and Christopher Forbes, three great granddaughters and two great grandsons. She was predeceased by her husband, Duncan "Duke" Forbes, her daughter, Carolyn, and her two sisters, Evelyn and Liz. Gladys and her husband Duke acted as a cheerful, central guiding spirit for the extended Forbes family for decades. Gladys was an avid reader and enjoyed visits to various beaches, including Manor (where she met her husband) and Cove Beaches in Stamford, Amagansett Beach on Long Island, and Lake Candlewood in Connecticut. Family outings often included Don and Georgie (her cousin) Brown of Darien, Alfred and Audrey (Dukes sister) Lawson, and Bill and Phoebe (Dukes sister) Berfield. Gladys also immensely enjoyed visits to and from her sisters Evelyn and Elizabeth (Liz) and their families. A celebration of Gladys life will be held Saturday, September 2nd, at 2:00 PM at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien, CT.
