Obituary of Robert Anthony Thompson

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert (Bob)Thompson was a life-long resident of Darien, CT. He died suddenly of heart failure on Sunday, October 3, 2004 while he was vacationing with his wife in Newport, RI. He was 56 years old. Bob was born in Stamford, CT on February 6, 1948. He was the son of the late Joseph J. and Mathilda A. Thompson. He grew up in Darien, and he graduated from Darien High School in 1966. Afterwards, he graduated from the American Academy of McAlister Institute of Funeral Science in New York, NY. He was a funeral director at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home for 37 years. Bob was actively involved in the Noroton Fire Department for about 30 years. During this time, he filled many different positions. At the time of his death, he held the position of Vice President. Bob enjoyed building and repairing small engines. He excelled as an expert craftsman, and his home reflects the quality of his work. Because of his building skills and his ability to repair or replace roofs, he earned the nickname “Bob the Builder”. His ability to share a name with a cartoon character reflects Bob’s humorous side. His humorous side could also be seen if you were lucky enough to attend one of Bob’s parties and received a door prize. These prizes could be anything from a toilet seat to a bottle of booze. No matter what the prize, Bob’s, presence at the party was sure to guarantee laughter. When there was time to relax, Bob enjoyed watching football games with his favorite team, the Washington Redskins. He also enjoyed collecting a variety of “treasures” and spending time with his family and friends. Bob always said to his friends “Remember, I’m the last person to let you down”. Bob was the beloved husband of 32 years to Janet M. Thompson and the devoted father of Scott A. Thompson and Courtney N. Thompson. Surviving him are four sisters: Kathy Novik of Baltimore, MD; CynSeo of Vero Beach, FL; Mary Sara of Darien; and Pamela Thompson of Darien. Many nieces and nephews also survive him. Funeral services for Bob were held in October of 2004. He was buried at St. John Cemetery in Darien, CT.
