Obituary of Emogene Weed Gaffney

Emogene Weed Gaffney, a life long Darien/Rowayton resident, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Norwalk Hospital. Born February 21, 1921 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Walter R. Weed and Susan M. Willmott Weed. She was 90. Emogene graduated from Darien High School in 1938. She was a charter member since May of 1940 of the Darien Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, a charter member since 1978 of the Rowayton Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Darien/New Canaan AARP #972, and a member of the Darien Senior Center. She is survived by her children: Diane G. Bishop and her husband, Tim; Sharon R. Szanto; Brian W. Gaffney; Dennis M Gaffney; Jean M. Miller and her husband, Jim; Noreen M. Gaffney; Peter J. Gaffney and Christopher J. Gaffney all of Norwalk. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Jennifer Kelly; Rachel Wright; Corinne Wright; Richard Gaffney, Ryan Gaffney and Riley Gaffney and two great grandchildren: Stephen Kelly and Emily Kelly. She was predeceased by her husband, William A. Gaffney; a son, Richard O. Gaffney and a brother, Herbert R. Weed. The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Darien Senior Center, 30 Edgerton Street, Darien, CT 06820 or to the Darien Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, 848 Post Road, Darien, CT 06820.
