Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Wood

Elizabeth Ann Wood, a fourth generation Darien native, died peacefully at home on Saturday, October 22, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Wood was born in New York City on January 4, 1936, the only child of Walter Grant Tyler and Elizabeth Mary Tyler. She was educated in Darien, graduating in 1954 from Darien High School. An employee of Bloomingdales in Stamford, CT, Mrs. Wood held several positions over the years, including Assistant to the Director of Personnel. She married Richard A. Wood, the love of her life, in 1957. Betty Ann was first and foremost a family person who was dedicated to her husband, children and grandchildren. Her love of her pets, the outdoors, boating and happy summer days spent at her home on Block Island brought her great joy. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Richard Stephen Wood and his wife Susan of Darien, daughter Cynthia Ann and her husband John Boester of West Haven, CT, and daughter Heather Elizabeth and her husband Daniel Gaccione of Groton, CT. She will be greatly missed by her four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Tyler Gaccione and Stephen and Meghan Wood. In accordance with her wishes, a memorial service will be held at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road in Darien at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29th, Reverend Joseph C. Ashe presiding. There will be a calling hour from 10 to 11 immediately preceding the service. A private family internment will be at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien. Mrs. Wood was dedicated to her community and among other organizations, she volunteered for many years at the Stamford Hospital and at Person-to-Person, a local organization which provides basic goods and services to those in need. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her name be made to the college scholarship fund at Person-to-Person, 1864 Boston Post Road, Darien, 06820.
