Obituary of George P. Sposito

George P. Sposito of Darien, CT passed away Thursday, January 1 at Wilton Meadows after suffering a stroke on November 20th. Mr. Sposito was born in Algiers, Algeria on December 22, 1925. He immigrated to America at the age of two years passing through Ellis Island and established residence in New York City. He attended Brooklyn College before serving in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Lee) Boscaino, and they settled in Manhattan. Shortly after he began his career with the United States Postal Service. In 1953 he moved to Darien, CT. where he began his employ with the Darien Post Office. In April of 2014 he was honored by the National Association of Letter Carriers for 60 years of loyal and dedicated service. Mr. Sposito enjoyed a love of languages and was fluent in both French and Italian. He was an accomplished stained glass artist and enjoyed sharing his passion with others at the Darien Senior Center. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Elizabeth (Lee), his Son George and his wife Rosemary of Ridgefield, his daughter Denise Shimko and husband Tom of Wilton, grandchildren Thomas Shimko, Jr. and Maddy Sposito, his sister Yolanda Curcuruto and husband Jimmy of Commack, NY and a large extended family. He was a loving husband, dedicated father and an extraordinary grandfather. He will be missed by all his family and all who knew him. His family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home at 2119 Post Road, Darien, CT on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at 3:00 to 7:00 PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Saint John's Roman Catholic Church at 1986 Post Road in Darien, CT.
