Obituary of Helen Pauline Holter

Helen (Perchy) Pauline Holter, a resident of Darien for 8 ½ years, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2005 in Darien. She lived in Brooklyn NY, then Farmingdale NY until 1997. Born October 22, 1911 in Altoona, PA, she was the daughter of the late Howard W. Perchy and Blanch Naugle Perchy. She was 94. Mrs. Holter graduated from Altoona High School in 1932, received a diploma as a registered nurse from Bushwick Hospital and Jewett Training School for Nurses, Brooklyn, NY in 1935. She worked as a registered professional nurse for 45 years. She worked at Prospect Heights Hospital in Brooklyn NY until 1959 and then at Mid Island Hospital in Bethpage, NY until her retirement in 1977. She was a member of the New York State Nurses. Mrs. Holter was a dedicated nurse; a lover of people; a true humanitarian; an avid reader; crocheter of blankets; an avid sports fan especially the New York Yankees. Helen is survived by a son, Thomas H. Holter of Nashville, TN; a daughter, Joan H. Gildea of Darien, CT; and two grandchildren, James T. and Megan C. Gildea both of Darien. She is predeceased by her husband Thomas O. Holter in 1984. The family will received friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM with a service to follow at 8:30 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Darien EMS Post 53, Helen P. Holter Nursing Scholarship, P O. Box 2066, Darien, CT 06820.
