Obituary of Avery Rogers Brooke

Avery Rogers Brooke, 88, died peacefully on 9 January after a long illness. She was born in Providence on the 28th of May, 1923. She was educated at Westover School and the Rhode Island School of Design. She attended Union Theological Seminary. She authored several books on Christian prayer, meditation, and healing. She was a mentor in the Annand Program of Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University. Active in community activities, she was a founder of Darien-Mercara Committee, a generous patron of the Darien Library, and an enthusiastic member of the Congregation of Saint Luke's Episcopal Parish. She was Publisher of Seabury Books and President of Seabury Press. She was an Oblate of the Order of the Holy Cross. Survived by her children, Sarah, Lucy, and Witter and grandchildren Madeleine and Joel. Service at St. Luke's Episcopal on Friday at 1 PM. Private family interment at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.
