Michael A. Duffy, a long time resident of Darien, CT, passed away quietly and peacefully at his daughter’s home on Saturday, February 11, 2006. Born June 15, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Edward and Anna (Flynn) Duffy. He was 73.

Mr. Duffy attended Darien schools and graduated from Darien High School class of 1950. During his senior year, he was selected to the All County team and achieved the distinction of being the first Darien basketball player to be named first team All State. He also lettered for two years on the Darien baseball team. He graduated from the University of Connecticut cum laude. After graduating from the University of Connecticut, he entered the U.S. Air Force as a First Lieutenant, where he earned his wings as a navigator. He retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. as a sales representative. He was honored by the Darien Old Timer’s Association in 2000.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sheila A. Duffy of Darien; one daughter, Deborah A. Paparella and her husband Mark of Colchester, CT; two sons, Michael A. Duffy, Jr. and his wife Marla of Bethel, CT and William E. Duffy and his wife Lynn of Trumbull, CT. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Michael A. Duffy, III; Brianna H. Duffy, Kellen J. Paparella, and twins Ryen T. Duffy and Jenna R. Duffy. He is survived by two brothers, Patrick J. Duffy of Danbury, CT and Edward F. Duffy of Darien and one sister, Margaret Pace also of Darien as well as many godchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien, CT on Friday, February 17, 2006 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John R.C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
