Obituary of Jean Wilson Tharp

Jean Wilson Tharp, a long-time resident of Darien and a former resident of Rowayton where she was raised and spent her early years, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2015 at The Greens at Cannondale in Wilton, CT. Born August 5, 1930 in New York City, NY, she was the daughter of the late John Marion and Mary (Rooney) Wilson. She was 84 years of age.
Jean received her bachelor's degree from the College of New Rochelle and her master's degree from Teachers College Columbia University. She was a former teacher with the Weston Board of Education. Jean was a long-time parishioner of St. Thomas More R.C. Church and attended Bible studies and taught CCD. She was very active with the Darien Community Association and was a former President in 1999 and 2000. She was also very involved in the Darien Community Association's Garden Club.
Jean is survived by her husband of 57 years, Carey E. Tharp, Jr. of Darien; a son, Carey E. Tharp, III of New Haven, CT; a daughter, Janet T. and her husband Thomas P. Lucas of Darien and two grandchildren, Brain A. Lucas and Andrew T. Lucas also of Darien. She is also survived by a sister, Janet (Sister Stephanie O.S.U.) Wilson of the Bronx, NY. She was predeceased by a brother, John M. Wilson, Jr.
The family will receive friends at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas More R.C. Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk.
