Obituary of Robert D. Hill

Robert D. Hill of Darien, died February 22, 2006 at the age of 86. The cause was congestive heart failure. Mr. Hill had a long career on Wall Street as an investment manager. He was a security analyst and partner at Newborg & Company when in 1964 he joined Clark, Dodge & Co., eventually serving as Vice Chairman of Investment Policy and Director of Research. He moved to Chemical Bank in 1974 as a portfolio manager and then as Executive Vice President of Chemical’s Favia, Hill & Associates, where he was responsible for the bank’s institutional equity clients. In 1986 he joined Pleasantville Advisors Inc., an investment management firm. He eventually formed R.D. Hill & Associates where he worked until his retirement in 1992 Robert Draper Hill, son of the late Geroge and Margaret (Trimble) Hill, was born January 12, 1920 in Fayette County, KY on the family dairy farm. Having received a full scholarship, he attended Harvard College, graduating magna cum laude in 1942 where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He was a Navy lieutenant during World War II. Mr. Hill was a Chartered Financial Analyst and a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts. He appeared on “Wall Street Week” in 1984 to discuss his consumer investment themes. He was also a longtime member of the Wee Burn Country Club in Darien. Mr. Hill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lorraine Wright Hill; a son, Robert Jr. of Manhattan; two daughters, Melissa Hill of Fairfield, and Elizabeth Makela and her husband Gregory of New Canaan; a brother Wilbur of Versailles, KY; and three grandchildren, Megan, Daniel and Kelly. Funeral Services will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1864 Post Road, Darien on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at Noon. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.
