Obituary of Antonio Leonardo Olive

Antonio "Tony" Leonardo Olive, a longtime resident of Darien who recently moved to Avon passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Hartford Hospital. Born November 4, 1937 in Frenchtown, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, he was the son of the late Anthony Olive and Florina ( Magras ) Olive and is predeceased by his spouse, Karen C. Olive. He was 77 years of age. Tony moved to Stamford at the age of 18 to work at Conde Nast as a book binder and also as a construction worker. Not too long after, he started a career at Pitney Bowes in Stamford in the factory on the night shift. After many years of dedicated service he was promoted to Night Shift Representative in the Employee Relations Department. He established through Bridgeport University English as a second language for the night shift employees. He was an advocate for helping others and sponsored many Special Olympics on behalf of Pitney Bowes. Tony dedicated 33 years of service at Pitney Bowes before retiring. Tony was very active in his retirement working for the Darien Police Department as a traffic agent. Crossing the children was especially rewarding as he came to know many of the children over the years. He was also involved in many churches; St. John, St. Benedict and St. Maurice dedicating his time as an usher, Eucharistic Minister and served on their many committees, alongside longtime girlfriend, Sandie DeLeo. Tony had many other interests and enjoyed bowling, golfing and fishing on Long Island Sound. He had a passion for cooking which brought his talent to cook for many organizations, churches and friends. Tony's love, kindness and care for his family and friends were carried throughout his life and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his son Antonio L. Olive, Jr. and his wife Stephanie of Stamford and granddaughters Nicole, Samantha and Felicia; a daughter, Theresa K. Czerwinski and her husband Christopher and a grandson, Evan, of Farmington. He is also survived by his sister Sr. Ann Olive of New Jersey; his brother Eddie Olive of St. Thomas, VI. He is predeceased by his two brothers, John Olive and Louis Olive. Calling hours will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien, CT on Tuesday, March 10, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Maurice Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford, CT on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 10am. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.
