Obituary of Wilton Taylor Parsons

Wilton Taylor Parsons, a resident of Stamford, died April 11, 2006 at Stamford Hospital after a brief illness. He was 92 years old. Mr. Parsons was born in Freshwater, Newfoundland on July 8, 1913 and immigrated to the United States with his family in 1927. He was the son of Mark and Diadem Parsons. Mr. Parsons completed his public school education at Stamford High in 1920 and later was graduated from the American Institute of Banking after taking courses from 1929 thru 1933. He served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946. Mr. Parsons was a lifetime banker who started with the Stamford Trust Company in 1929. He helped the company grow to become the Fairfield County Trust and subsequently the Union Trust Company which he retired from in July of 1976 as vice president and chairman of the operations committee. He was associated with many local and professional organizations such as the Connecticut Bankers Assoc., American Institute of Banking, Boy Scouts of America and the YMCA. Mr. Parsons was an avid fisherman who enjoyed both saltwater and freshwater pursuits. His love of the water lead to participation with the Coast Guard Power Squadron, Wilson Cove Yacht Club and Cos Cob Yacht Club where he was a former commodore. Mr. Parsons is survived by a son, John W. Parsons and his wife Marene of Ridgefield; a daughter, Karen Parsons Babinec and her husband Horst of Stamford; two sisters, Ruth Quackenbush of Sarasota Florida and Laura Wilks of Darien; and a brother, Gillman Parsons of Stamford. Friends may call on the family at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien between 5:00 and 8:00 PM on Friday April 14. A brief funeral service will be held at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien at 10 AM Saturday April 15 followed by burial at Fairfield Memorial Park. . As per his wishes, the family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to either the Western Connecticut Chapter MS Society, 1 Selleck Street Suite 500, Norwalk, CT 06855 or to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Rd.
