Obituary of Neil Callahan

Neil Callahan, a long time resident of Darien, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2006 after a long illness. Born in Stamford, CT in 1921, he was the son of the late Patrick and Mary (Harrington) Callahan. He was 84 years of age. Mr. Callahan served in the United State Marine Corps during World War II and graduated from Dartmouth College, class of 1947. Neil owned a successful excavating company. Neil and his wife, Pat, raised their family in Darien. He served on many Town boards and committees including the Board of Trustees for the Darien Library. He was an active member of St. John R.C. Church up until his illness. Neil was predeceased by his beloved wife Pat and his son Daniel. He is survived by his children Bob of Mystic, CT; Maura of Old Chatham, NY; Shayne of San Jose, CA; Jean of River Forest, IL; Neil of San Jose, CA; Ann of Ridgefield, CT; and Tom of Alexandria, VA. He leaves behind thirteen grandchildren. His brother, Robert Callahan, a Stamford native, also survives him. Even in his decline, Neil loved life. He will be missed by many. Friends may call at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Monday, April 26, 2006 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be said at St. John R.C. Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
