Obituary of Sidney W. Falkenthal

Sidney W. Falkenthal of Darien passed away at the River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury, CT on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at the age of 86 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Tornesch, Germany on April 2, 1920, he moved to Darien in 1925 and lived there until his illness forced him into assisted living a year ago. Sid was a 1937 graduate of Darien High School and has been a member of the Darien Fire Department since 1940. During World War II, he served in Italy as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. Prior to his retirement, he was a 35 year member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association. Sidney was predeceased by his wife Mildred in 1986. He is survived by his sons, Gary of Danbury and Eric of Golden, CO; four grandchildren and one great grandson. Friends may call at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien, CT on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 from 4:00 and 8:00 PM. Services will be held at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home on Thursday, April 27, 2006 at 10:30 AM with interment to follow at Spring Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 10 Wall Street, Apt. 211, Norwalk, CT 06850.
